My Holistic Natural Routine for Slugging

I've heard the word "slugging" spread lately, and I was curious about it.
Slugging, firstly, is the piling of hydrating ingredients and loading an occlusive petroleum jelly/Vaseline onto the skin, layering the petroleum-based ointment all over your face at night.
The Tik Tok trend uses Vaseline, which acts as an occlusive to hydrate and secure moisture in your skin. It's like putting saran wrap on the skin; it's supposed to seal in the ingredients you normally use in your nighttime routine, essentially helping with the loss of moisture to the skin.
However, Vaseline and petroleum jelly do not allow the skin to secrete oil ( serbum) or sweat, which our bodies naturally need to do daily to flush the toxins. Using occlusive ingredients such as Vaseline, petroleum jelly or mineral oil to perform slugging may work for some people, but not all.
Utilizing these certain ingredients with this popular trend could lead to small breakouts or whiteheads that you can see on the skin. This is also known as milia or closed comedones, which can leave tiny hard bumps, making the skin's texture not smooth or even.
Which, as we know, goes against having healthy and glowing smooth skin.
I personally love the idea of slugging; I have been practicing it for years! I didn't know that it was a trend nowadays, lol.
We can still achieve this technique at night without using potentially toxic and clogging ingredients. Natural and holistic products will make slugging successful and lock in the moisture and prevent you from unwanted breakouts.
Following these steps and using the products listed below will show you my holistic natural routine for slugging with my approved products.
My Slugging Process
These are the steps I follow to achieve the best results for slugging. Following it in this order will help cleanse your face and add the necessary moisture needed for the skin.
- Step one: Cleanse your face.
- Step two: Pile on hydrating ingredients.
- Step three: Add a nightly moisturizer like an oil or lotion.
- Step four: Load on your occlusive.

Lotus Moon Tonic Replenish
Step 2: You're going to want to tone with a Tonic Replenish Hydrating Facial Toner. The smell of the Lotus Moon Tonic Replenish is absolutely divine, like a bed of roses. Added bonus, it's hyaluronic acid packed, which means it's ultra-hydrating to the skin.
The benefits of this product include preparing the skin for better absorption of other products, regulating and balancing the pH of the skin and leaving the skin with a hydrating protective layer.

Brujita Hechizo Facial Serum
Step 3: Using oil. The oils you utilize should not contain mineral oil and should specifically be for your skin type. The Brujita Hechizo Facial Serum will be antioxidant-packed and high in Vitamin C.
OPTIONAL: You can also use this oil while performing your Gua Sha or Facial Cupping.
Lotus Moon Cherry Blossom Soothe
Step 4: The Lotus Moon Cherry Blossom Healing Soothe is the Holy Grail of healing balms! I have been obsessed and in love with this product for years. I religiously wear this healing balm every night. It's soothing and will give you that vaseline occlusive, heavy feeling moisture without toxic, harsh and clogging ingredients.
This non-comedogenic heavy moisturizer is amazing for super dry, sunburned, irritated, recovering from laser treatments, eczema, and dermatitis skin types.
With a combination of Shea Butter, Willowherb, Gotu Kola, Horse Chestnut Extract, Butchersbroom, Calendula and more, it is so creamy and thick that a little goes a long way.

Step 5 (Bonus) - D20 Hydra Mist
Step 5 (Bonus): If you feel like going crazy with it, you can use a final mist, the D2O Hydra Mist, to top it off. This specific mist is called heavy water. There is H2O, which is water and then there is D2O.
D2O heavy water is more resistant to evaporation and more protective and plumping than normal water on the skin. It delivers more moisture deep into the skin preventing epidermal water loss.
